As Transformation : Critical Perspectives on a Theory in Progress
(Jossey-Bass Higher and Adult Education Series)
by Jack Mezirow
Transformative learning pioneer Jack Mezirow
brings together an outstanding group of scholars and practitioners
to reflect on how concepts of transformative learning have
influenced their work as adult educators.
Mezirow and sixteen of his renowned colleagues
- all leading authorities in education research - reflect
on how the theory of transformative learning has changed the
field of adult education. The book provides a comprehensive
overview of this groundbreaking theory on adult education
as the contributors assess the degree to which transformative
learning has evolved as both a theory and a philosophy of
practice-and how it has caused leading scholars to rethink
their research and practice from a new perspective.
From an analysis of the underlying principles
of how adults learn to change their frame of reference to
an exploration of how the theory works in practice in various
adult learning settings, Mezirow and his associates reveal
the core of transformative learning in a way that is at once
comprehensive, scholarly, and accessible.
